Estate positioning

A family estate in the Chablis region.

Tanguy and Franck Villain work 19 hectares of Kimmeridgian slopes in Beine. They make dry white wines of mineral purity there, with respect for time and for limestone.

Mechanical harvesting, vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel, patient ageing on the lees: everything happens at the estate, from the careful harvest to the final bottling.

The Four Expressions

Petit Chablis · Chablis · Cuvée Élégance · Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy

Pure Chardonnay expressed through four readings of limestone terroir, from the lively plateau to the solar power of the Premier Cru.

01 · Petit ChablisLimestone plateaus

Lively, saline tension

The most mineral and freshest of the range. Ten-year-old vines on the limestone plateaus, 7,700 vines per hectare, single Guyot pruning. An immediate crystalline vivacity, with notes of precise citrus and gunflint.

The archetype of the village appellation

The approachable roundness of the village appellation, across 13 hectares of south-east facing slopes. A perfect balance between caressing roundness and a mineral framework cut by the limestone beneath.

03 · Cuvée ÉléganceParcel selection

The house cuvée

The house cuvée: a parcel selection, 90 % in stainless steel and 10 % in new oak, the compromise between the mineral character of Petit Chablis and the roundness of the Premier Cru. A generous texture threaded with continuous saline freshness.

Solar slope & venerable vines

A parcel planted in 1949 by our grandparents, on the Côte de Troëme slope. 1,000 bottles a year, fully south-facing. Candied fruit, dense power and remarkable freshness from the historic Kimmeridgian marls.

Sedimentary matrix

The Kimmeridgian rock

Compact limestone beds studded with tiny fossilised oysters — Exogyra virgula — deposited 150 million years ago, when Burgundy was a warm sea. It is from this unique geological matrix that our chardonnay draws its salinity, its uprightness and its crystalline profile.

Yet from one parcel to the next, the terroir remains exactly the same. It is the hand of the grower that makes the difference — and that is where the work takes place, all year round, from winter pruning to bottling.

1949 — 2024

Three generations.

Read our story

From the first parcel planted to the first bottle bottled: what the estate became, step by step.

  1. 1949

    The first parcel

The vineyard begins on a hillside of the Côte de Troëme, above Beine: thirteen ares, planted by hand, on the chalk.

  2. 1970–1980

    Livestock farming disappears

When livestock farming leaves the Chablis region, vines take its place. The vineyard is organised parcel after parcel, and the family settles on Kimmeridgian hillsides.

  3. 2008

    Modern rigour

The soil work is redone parcel by parcel, the harvest goes mechanical, and the running of the vineyard changes hands: the cellar is organised for vinification on site.

  4. 2015

The two brothers in the cellar

From then on the estate vinifies on site, in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and the wine is raised on fine lees. The cellar stops being a négociant’s storehouse: it becomes the workshop of the house.

  5. 2022

    The estate of two

The estate consolidates around 19 hectares of Kimmeridgian hillsides. The handover is complete: Tanguy and Franck now hold the vines and the cellar between them.

  6. 2024

    The first bottle

On the 2023 vintage, the estate bottles for the first time. Until then it vinified for the négociant trade, in bulk and must.
